5 Changes Confirmed In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
During the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac shed light on the gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, disclosing several changes in the process.
With the anticipation for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s eventual release growing, the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase clarified a few misconceptions fans may have had based on the game’s original reveal trailer in 2021. Despite significant fan dissatisfaction with the event this time due to a lack of first-party titles. Insomniac’s efforts likely saved the day.
Following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales, the sequel’s inclusion of new foes, plot aspects, gameplay mechanics, and much more has fans guessing even further as to what awaits them when the highly anticipated title is eventually released.
Combat
Insomniac Games has not been hesitant about revealing what could be the core plot of the sequel. The symbiote Venom becoming one with Peter Parker. Unsurprisingly, this plot twist appears to be taking the combat to a completely new level. While the 2018 title gave an enjoyable gaming experience with its mix of tools, combos, and finishers. The reveal of Spider-Man 2’s combat depicts a significantly more aggressive and savage Peter Parker.
The player can be seen laying hard and perhaps fatal punches on foes while also giving off a scary vibe unlike his ordinary self due to the symbiote. Insomniac Games appears to be altering the combat to be more akin to titles like Batman Arkham City and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. While this may solely be related to the use of the symbiote suit. It is nonetheless a promising indicator.
Faster Swinging
Many fans realised during the course of both Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man Miles Morales that the speed of the swinging between Miles Morales and Peter Parker should be a little faster and more “lore accurate.” Fortunately for PC players who have lately had the opportunity to play both games, Spider-Man modders have found a technique to allow for faster movement in web-swinging, resulting in speedy movement in traversal.

This is evidenced in his monster-like deep voice, irritable attitude towards Miles. And throwing an innocent citizen on the ground after saving them. All of which indicate that Peter is succumbing to the symbiote by the minute.
Character Swapping
Grand Theft Auto 5 by Rockstar Studios demonstrated the broad potential of using character switching to strengthen a plot. While not likely directly inspired by that open-world concept, Insomniac Games appears to be incorporating this feature into the sequel. GTA 5 requires players to switch between characters as they all play important roles in completing the overarching objectives. And Spider-Man 2 may follow suit.
However, it is unclear whether this character swapping would be possible at any time during free roam. If that is the case, it will almost definitely gratify Miles or Peter supporters. This would essentially integrate both Miles Morales and Spider-Man (2018) titles into one, resulting in the ultimate web-swinging experience.
Spider-Man 2 is in production and will be released on PlayStation 5 in the autumn of 2023.
